A list of Cenozoic plant fossils in the Qinghai Tibet Plateau (2019-2020)

The data include the Cenozoic plant fossils collected from Gansu, Qinghai and Yunnan by the Department of paleontology, School of Geological Sciences and mineral resources, Lanzhou University from 2019 to 2020. All the fossils were collected by the team members in the field and processed in the laboratory by conventional fossil restoration methods and cuticle experiment methods. The fossils are basically well preserved, some of which are horned The study of these plant fossils is helpful to understand the Cenozoic paleoenvironment, paleoclimate, paleogeographic changes and vegetation features of the eastern Qinghai Tibet Plateau.

Low temperature thermochronology data set of the Yalong River thrust belt on the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau

This data set includes apatite and zircon (U-Th) / He ages, apatite fission-track (AFT) ages of the Yalong River thrust belt, which will be continuously updated in the future. The first part is the apatite and zircon He and apatite fission-track data from the Yunongxi fault, a branch fault in the hinterland of the Yalong River thrust belt. The second part of the data is from the Jinping Shan-Muli fault, a branch of the Yalong River thrust belt, including apatite and zircon He ages data. The data results are concentrated, which well constrain the evolution of the Yalong River thrust belt and provide a high-quality chronological basis for exploring its role in the process of plateau expansion.

Composition and implication of trace elements from the Permian basic rocks in central Yarlung Zangbo suture zone

Previous works have been undertaking on the geochemistry of some basic rocks within the Yaelung Zangbo suture zone, and it was proposed that the Jurassic-Cretaceous seamount type basement basic rocks are preserved in Zhongba and Renbu area. In this work, we conducted analysis of trace element for seventeen basic rock samples underlain below limestone blocks in Lhaze area within the central Yarlung Zangbo suture zone, southern Tibet. Results show that the rocks are dominated by basalts and have a feature of EMORB type with NMORB and OIB types. Combined with the overlain carbonates, these rocks are proposed the basement of paleo-seamounts, the Permian vestige preserved within the Yarlung Zangbo suture zone. This recognition of paleo-seamount implies that the Neotethys Ocean could have been already opened at the time (before the Middle Permian epoch).

Field exploration dataset of the central, eastern and southern Qinghai-Xizang Plateau geology

The Yarlung Zangbo suture zone and its neighbouring areas are crucial for the research of the evolution of Neo-Tethys. The earliest evidence of the formation of Neo-Tethys remains to be discovered and the sequence of the basin evolution in many areas, such as the eastern and western Xizang, is far from well established. The limits in stratigraphy and sedimentology have greatly restricted the investigation of the evolution of Neo-Tethys as well as the collision between Indian-Eurasian plates. This exploration team conducted a joint investigation on the Mesozoic strata in some key areas in eastern, central, and southern Xizang, with emphasis on their stratigraphy, palaeontology, and sedimentology, to retrieve potential stratigraphic and sedimentary evidence of the opening, evolution, and retreat of the Neo-Tethys in the region. This dataset is a collection of the exploration, which includes diaries and photos of the strata, geological structure, profiles, and fossils that have been collected in the above-mentioned areas. It consists of three items. The explored strata include the Jurassic-Cretaceous in Luolong and Basu counties, eastern Xizang, in Renbu and Lang counties, central Xizang, and the radiolarite strata in Ngari.

pH of representative samples in the Heihe River Basin

The data set includes soil pH data of representative soil samples collected from July 2012 to August 2013 in the Heihe River Basin. The first soil survey was conducted in 2012. After the representativeness evaluation of collected samples, we conducted an additional sampling in 2013. These samples are representative enough to represent the soil variation in the Heihe River Basin, of which the soil variation in each landscape could be accounted for. The sampling depths in field refer to the sampling specification of Chinese Soil Taxonomy, in which soil samples were taken from genetic soil horizons.

Physical and chemical index data of deep drilling strata in the middle reaches of Heihe River (2013)

This data set contains the element content data of a deep drilled formation near the open sea in the middle reaches of Heihe River. The borehole is located at 99.432 E and 39.463 n with a depth of 550m. The element scanning analysis was carried out at 1-3cm intervals for the drilled strata. The scanning was completed in the Key Laboratory of Western Ministry of environmental education, Lanzhou University, and 38705 effective element data were obtained.

Age data of the deep sediment core in the midstream of the Heihe River

This data set contains a deep drilling paleomagnetic age data near the open sea in the middle reaches of Heihe River. The borehole is located at 99.432 E and 39.463 n with a depth of 550m. The samples of paleomagnetic age were taken at the interval of 10-50 cm. The paleomagnetic test was carried out in the Key Laboratory of Western Ministry of environmental education of Lanzhou University. The primary remanence of the samples was obtained by alternating demagnetization and thermal demagnetization, and the whole formation magnetic formation was obtained by using the primary remanence direction of each sample, and then the sedimentary age of the strata was obtained by comparing with the standard polarity column. The results show that the bottom boundary of the borehole is about 7 Ma and the top boundary is 0 ma.

Palaeogeographic distribution of Early, Middle and Late Triassic lithofacies in Pan-Third Pole area

Guided by plate tectonics, palaeogeography, petroleum basin analysis and sedimentary basin dynamics , a large number of data and achievements in recent years of geological and petroleum geology research in Pan-Third Pole have been collected, including basic materials such as strata, sediments, palaeontology, palaeogeography, palaeoenvironments, palaeoclimate, structure, petroleum (sylvine) geology, especially Palaeomagnetism and palaeozoic. On the basis of material, detrital zircon and geochemical data, and combined with the results of typical measured stratigraphic profiles, the lithofacies and climatic palaeogeographic pattern of the Triassic period were restored and reconstructed, and the Palaeogeographic distribution of Early, Middle and Late Triassic lithofacies in Pan-Third Pole area as well as the paleoclimatic distribution maps were obtained, aiming at discussing the control and influence of palaeogeography, palaeostructure and Palaeoclimate on hydrocarbon (potassium-bearing) resources In order to reveal the geological conditions of oil and gas formation and the law of resource distribution, and provide scientific basis and technical support for overseas and domestic oil and gas exploration and deployment in China. The boundary line between different lithofacies and climate is clear, which better reveals the paleogeographic pattern of lithofacies and climate in the Triassic period, which is of certain indicative significance for the study of the control and influence of paleogeography, paleostructure and paleoclimate on oil and gas (including potash) resources, as well as the geological conditions for the formation of oil and gas and the distribution of resources.
